Obituary of Johann Neufeld

Johann Neufeld, age 79, of Loma Plata, Paraguay, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB.

He is survived by his wife Anny and their two daughters and sons-in-law Adina & Jason Moroz and Renate & Willy Peters, and his two granddaughters Jeannine and Denise.

He will also be lovingly remembered by his sister and brother, step-sisters and step-brothers and his nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by both his parents.

Johann was a man who loved life and loved to work hard. Creating something with his own hands brought him great joy. He moved his family to Paraguay and back two times, each time starting fresh: building a home for his family, digging wells and cisterns, creating a garage/welding shop, building a restaurant as part-owner. He was a man of many talents and for many years he was mayor of Loma Plata, a job he excelled at.

Then the adventure vein caught him again and he moved to Bolivia, again starting anew: building a home, clearing land to create a sheep farm, hand building pens and fences, planting a fruit garden. These things brought him great joy and he did them well. When his health started to decline, he came back to Canada where he lived for the last 12 years of his life. He suffered a lot, but he died a man at peace with himself and the world. We were very fortunate to have known him.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with interment to follow at Grunthal Cemetery, Grunthal, MB.
