Obituary of Arthur Reimer

On Wednesday, January 25, 2023, Arthur Reimer peacefully passed away in his sleep, at Bethesda Place Personal Care Home, Steinbach, MB.

Art was born on May 30, 1946, alongside his twin brother, Willie, to William and Margaret Reimer, in the municipality of St. Anne. Unfortunately, Willie passed away shortly after birth and Art grew up without his twin brother.

Art lived in the Blumenhof area in his early years. He was home schooled for his first few years of school while the family moved to the bush in the West Hawk/Kenora region, where his dad worked on a sawmill during the winters until 1957. Art lived in many places but his last number of years he lived just outside of Grunthal.

In Blumenort, 1963, Art was baptized upon confession of his faith by Pastor Dave P. Reimer.

Art worked at Granny's Poultry, drove feed truck, long distance and even hauling RVs! He was working at Ken Loewen's Feed Mill when he lost the tips of two fingers after a belt was turned back on while he was inspecting it. Most notably, Art worked as a sawyer for many years. Art had his sawmill burn down but was able to purchase another and continue doing his work. He spent many years working alongside his dad and his brother on the sawmill. He had a number of his nieces and nephews who worked for him, piling lumber, at one time or another. Some just for the summer and others longer.

Art enjoyed spending time fishing and working with wood. Art always had a story to tell. Especially about bears in the bush or about the time a timber wolf grabbed his pant leg and tried to drag him under his camp trailer.

In the summer of 2020, Art suffered a stroke which left him unable to walk on his own and needed help to attend to his daily living. He stayed at Steinbach hospital for a few months and then moved into Bethesda Place. His health continued to decline as dementia set in.

Art will be missed by his many friends and family.

Art is predeceased by his parents, Willie and Margaret Reimer, his sister Alfrieda, his brothers Willie, Lorne and Jerry, his foster sister Lynda, and his foster brother Larry.

He is survived by his four sisters; Helena (and Peter) Friesen, Elvira Schroeder, Joanne Thomas Dueck and Abe Friesen, and Tanya Sanderson Dueck; sister-in-law Janice Reimer, brother Kelvin (and Barb) Reimer, and foster brother Earl Thomas. He also leaves three step-children, who were very dear to his heart, Karen, Jennifer, and Joe. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

We are so thankful to the staff at Bethesda Place who cared for him in his last couple of years.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with interment to follow at Blumenort Community Church Cemetery, Blumenort, MB.
