Obituary of Helen Henzel

With great sadness we announce the passing of Helen Henzel (nee Mandziuk) who passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB, surrounded by her loving family.

To cherish her memory, Helen is survived by her daughter Donna and husband Ed Andrusiak, one sister Ollie Christle, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends and her fur baby, Diego.

Helen was predeceased by her husband John Henzel on September 23, 1964, father and mother Peter and Mary (Zaporzon) Mandziuk and infant brother John, in-laws Carl and Helen Henzel.

Helen was born on October 12, 1935, on her family farm in Sarto, Manitoba. She attended public school in Sarto, where she resided most of her life. On July 23, 1955, she married the love of her life. In 1963 they were blessed with her only child, Donna. Tragically in a farming accident on September 23, 1964, she became widowed.

Helen proved her strength and bravery throughout her life. She was hardworking, humble, quiet in nature, loyal to her faith and family, generous and loving. She displayed amazing strength and courage with a strong will to live, never wishing to draw attention or seek sympathy.

The things that brought joy into Helen’s life were creative outlets like sewing, working at Phyllis Catering and attending to her vegetable gardens on the farm. She loved completing puzzles, cooking, talking on the phone and going to garage sales. Above all else, her greatest joy was spending time with her friends and family, which meant the world to her.

Prayers will take place on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with burial to follow at St. Peter and Paul’s Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery, Pansy, MB.

The family would like to thank and acknowledge the GH7 Neurology Unit at Health Sciences Centre, the doctors and staff at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, her homecare staff, Deacon Leon Twerdun, Father Kowch, and everyone who provided love, friendship, support and care throughout the years.
