Obituary of Mary Reimer

Viewing will take place on Sunday, March 19^th, 2023, at the New Bothwell Sommerfeld Church, 36046 MB-216, New Bothwell, MB, at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. 

The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 20^th, 2023, at New Bothwell Sommerfeld Church, New Bothwell, MB, at 10:00 a.m. on with interment to follow the service at the church cemetery.

Mary Reimer, age 85, of Steinbach, MB, formerly of Tolstoi, MB, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB.

She is lovingly remembered by eight children, Martha (Mark) McCue, Mary (Tom) Peters, Kathy (Erdman) Wiebe, Ann, Simon (Nettie) Reimer, John (Leona) Reimer, Bill (Virginia) Reimer, Lisa (Wes) Bergen, 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Mom was born to Simon & Maria nee Toews Schroeder and raised in the Grunthal area. She married our Dad, John, in 1959 and began their married life in the Tolstoi area. Early in their marriage they worked seasonally in Ontario fruit orchards. In Tolstoi, Mom managed the farm and the children while Dad worked at Pool Elevators. As their farm and family grew, mom and dad worked together on the farm.

After she and Dad semi-retired, they took up garden marketing. It brought her such joy to be able to earn an income doing what she so loved to do – gardening! The gardens that Mom grew were incredible! To say she had a green thumb was an understatement!

Faith was an integral part in our mom’s life. She read Bible stories to her family and helped the children memorize scripture verses. “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved” was affirmed in Mom’s life in the way she lived and loved. Our mom was a strong, independent, quiet lady – that is until she called you for dinner – that voice could be heard on the entire farmyard I am sure! Her devotion to her family was expressed through her love, loyalty and care. Her love language was food; cooking, baking and serving.  If you had a migraine, she had a solution; two extra strength Advil and a WHOLE can of Pepsi.  If there was only one piece left of pie, she was suddenly never hungry anymore. Her servant heart shone very brightly in her life.

She loved her children and grandchildren incredibly.  For that we will always be grateful!
