Obituary of Luc Berard

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear brother Luc, he passed away suddenly at his residence in St. Pierre Sud, MB, on Saturday, April 8, 2023.

Luc leaves to cherish his memory his three brothers; Real, Raymond and Alfred; two sisters-in-law; Eva Berard and Suzanne Berard as well, several nephews and nieces, plus many friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Antoine and Leona (Hebert); his sister Aline Lahaie; his brothers Samuel, Jean, Fernand, Claude (Coco), Henri, his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law; Johnny Lahaie, and sisters-in-law Irene, Celine, Marguerite, Bernadette.

Luc was a man of many talents, he was an excellent mechanic, airplane pilot, Luc was an avid reader plus an inquisitive mind.

Towards the end of the nineteen sixties after obtaining his pilots license Luc purchased a Champion ag aircraft to venture in the AG SPRAYING business, he was well known in south Eastern Manitoba, spraying the fields of numerous grain farmers.

During the winter months Luc worked as a long distance driver for Reimer Express Lines, his route was Winnipeg - Toronto - Winnipeg.

At the end of the sixties era and early seventies the Americans were fighting the Vietnam war, wheat farmers in the American midwest were dealing with a shortage of workers on the their farms for their sons were away fighting in the Vietnam War. This presented a new business opportunity for Luc, he purchased a John Deere combine and a grain truck and hired help. He made his way to Kansas and this was the beginning of Luc Berard's Custom Harvesting business harvesting wheat fields from Kansas to South Dakota and on to Manitoba for the corn harvesting. He bought two more John Deere combines, plus grain trucks and this venture turned out to be a successful enterprise. Luc was involved in the AG business till his retirement in the mid nineties. In retirement Luc still had a love for flying, there’s an old saying "you can take the boy out of the country, but can't take the country out of the boy". In Luc’s case it was the love of flying. Luc purchase a Power Parachute that satisfied his passion for flying.

As per Luc's wishes a private burial will be held at a later date followed by a family and friends get together to celebrate Luc's life at the Cabane a Sucre in St. Pierre-Jolys, MB.
