Obituary of Carol Elizabeth (Reimer) Wiebe

Carol Wiebe was promoted to Glory on Tuesday, May 09, 2023.

She was born in Steinbach, Manitoba, on June 12, 1944. She was baptized while still in her teenaged years and remained true to her faith. Carol was a natural musician and played music by ear. She bought one of the first amplified piano accordions in Steinbach. She was the founder of a Country Gospel Band which grew to 13 musicians. Through this band, Vic and Carol became aware of each other. Early in their courtship Carol showed her love of adventure by making a 24-hour train trip to Thompson, MB, to visit Vic. Her adventures continued after she married Vic in 1967. Upon his graduation in 1970, they moved to Dawson Creek, BC, for Vic’s first oil industry job. After many moves between Estevan, Saskatchewan, and Dawson Creek, BC, they finally settled in Calgary in 1982.

Carol’s jobs were in the auto and home insurance industry, progressing to an insurance underwriter with professional credentials. She retired in 2007. Finally in 2008 she convinced Vic that it would be a great idea to go on an Alaska Cruise which was followed by a Panama Canal Cruise in 2013.

She doted on their son Chris, attending all his baseball, hockey, band, and fund-raising activities. She was proud of his marching band accomplishments, encouraging his travels to Europe and Australia.

She was tolerant and respectful of varying life views. She accepted Chris and his friends even though their relationships were unfamiliar to her. With their friends she celebrated Chris and Chris’s marriage ceremony in her house.

She enjoyed travelling in their RV with her sister-in-law Elma, including a month at the 2010 Olympics. Carol loved all the games. She was competitive to the point that she could not be Vic’s game partner.

Her family of seven brothers and Vic’s family were very precious to her. She insisted on many family visits to Steinbach and other locales. There were lots of nieces, nephews, and grandchildren to stay current with.

She had a massive stroke in May 2014. After a lot of rehab therapy, her only deficit was her mobility. Even after residing in Long Term Care for nine years, she still was happy and not prone to complain. She thanked visitors for stopping in to see her. When she could no longer compete in dinner table chatter, she could still be counted on for a detailed and comprehensive mealtime prayer.

Thank you: to the Bereznicki family for making us a part of their greater family;  to Elvira who was Carol’s Soulmate and faithful visitor; to the care team at AgeCare Seton, in particular Nancy, who was Carol’s nurse for over eight years;  to the staff at ARBI rehab center who directed Carol’s therapy; to Debbie who visited Carol regularly and painted her nails bright red; to the First Alliance Church who ministered to her spiritual needs.

Donations in memory of Carol may be made to First Alliance Church ; to MCC ; to ARBI; or to the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area
