Obituary of Roger Desmarais
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Desmarais on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the age of 65.
Roger was surrounded by the love of his family when he passed away in palliative care at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, Manitoba.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Janice of 44 years; his daughters Julie Dubois (Denis); Cheri Harel (Shawn) and his nine grandchildren Corey, Dylan, Jerzie, Raya, Blake, Nicholas, Danyka, Roxanne and Levi.
He will be remembered by his siblings Eveline LeGal, Paul & Mary Ellen Desmarais, Yvonne & Larry Trudeau, Maurice & Sharan Desmarais, Gerry & Gisele Desmarais, Leo & Suzanne Desmarais, Ray Desmarais & Audrey Nickel, Annette Jamault, brother-in-law George Swojanovski and many nephews and nieces.
Roger was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Agnes Desmarais, brother Robert Desmarais, sister Denise Goovaerts and nephew Roland LeGal.
Roger was a man of integrity. Love for his family was the center of his life. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Roger was a kind and gentle soul with a heart of gold. He had an infectious smile and a sense of humour that sometimes caught people off guard. He lived life to the fullest and made friends wherever he went.
His willingness to help others came without hesitation whether it was family, friends, neighbours or the community he lived in.
Roger’s passion for trucking became his life long career path in the trucking transport industry meeting and befriending people along the way.
Roger’s other passion was to help on Manaigre Farms with the harvest season each year.
In 1985 Roger devoted himself to join the R.M. of Taché Fire Department. He took great pride in being an active firefighter and later being promoted to Fire Chief where he served for 21 years total.
Roger’s interests in his adult years were hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding, quading, camping and most of all spending quality time with family and friends.
Roger will always be remembered as the most selfless, faithful and loving person that touched the lives of so many.
The family would like to thank CancerCare Manitoba and the nurses at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, Manitoba for the wonderful care Roger received during his stay.
The Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Roger’s memory may be made to: CancerCare Manitoba or The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
