Obituary of Hedy Peters

Hedy Peters, aged 95, passed away peacefully at the Heritage Life Personal Care Home in Niverville, Manitoba, on Thursday, June 22, 2023.

Hedy was the third child of Gerhard and Luise Dueck and was born on a small farm near Steinbach, MB. When she was nine years old, they moved to a larger farm five miles east of Niverville. She had many happy memories of life on the farm with her parents, five sisters and one brother, and of attending the small country school and church at a neighboring farm. Some years later her family moved to Niverville where Hedy attended high school, joined the Mennonite Brethren Church, and worked for a time as a housekeeper. Following this, she spent a few years living in Winnipeg, working at the Blue Ribbon factory and later at Eaton’s.

She married Henry Peters in 1950 and spent the following years raising and caring for her family while tending a large garden and baking endless batches of buns and cookies.

Her faith in God was unwavering throughout her long life.

She was predeceased by her husband Henry, two sisters and her brother.

After 22 years alone, she met & married Isaac Peters in 1996 and began a new chapter of life on the farm near St. Adolphe.

She is survived and will be greatly missed by three sisters, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, her husband Isaac, her children Elaine (Pete), Roy, Bettie Anne (Larry), Gary (Laurie), her grandsons Nate, Jackson, Alex, Jordan (Christina) and great-grandson Henry.

Interment will be at Hespeler Cemetery in Niverville, MB, followed by a private family service.
