Obituary of James Berg

It is with deepest sadness that I announce the tragic and sudden passing of our son, James Abraham Kent Berg, on June 18th, 2023, at the age of 25 years, in the RM of Emerson, MB.

James (Bergie, Uncle Bergie) was called to Heaven early. He was a son, a brother, a cousin, a friend and a gentle, kind-hearted young man with a generous soul. He loved his family and friends and extended families dearly. He was always willing to help a neighbor and he loved to weld and run equipment while working on the farm. He had a sense of humor that could brighten up any room and our hearts ache as we will no longer be able to hear those comic and casual interjections that he would shoot into our everyday conversations, that would leave us all laughing. A true outdoorsman, he loved to live alongside nature. James was developing his archery skills and was an avid archer who could manage skillfully a 70lb draw weight. He could often be found fishing, or tracking and moving his tree stands from one area to the next in search of the critters (bear) that called those areas home. He loved to quietly watch sunrises, sunsets and the Northern Lights dance.

James was born on June 23rd of 1997 at the HSC Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg, MB, and he grew up and worked in the Ridgeville area all his life.

James is survived by: his mother Lesley (Greg), and his father Peter, his brothers David and Aaron and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents and an infant sister Katrina.

Arrangements for James’ funeral have been entrusted to the care of the Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach. Due to the accidental nature of his passing, as a family, we have waited patiently. We are now able to provide family and friends with the funeral arrangements.

The Celebration of Life and funeral for James Berg will be held on Wednesday, July 5th, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Church in Greenridge, MB, with Rev. Damber Khadka officiating.

Interment will be in the Greenridge Cemetery, Greenridge, MB, directly after the service with a lunch to follow at the Ridgeville Hall, Ridgeville, MB.

We would like to thank all of our extended family, neighbors and friends for their continued concern and support as we move through this emotionally difficult time.

If friends so desire, donations in memory of James may be made to The Greenridge United Church Memorial Fund.
