Obituary of Irma Dueck

My dear wife, our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Irma Wiebe Dueck was born to Peter and Agnes Wiebe on March 5, 1930. She peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at the Pinawa Hospital, Pinawa, MB, after a brief illness, reaching the age of 93 years.

Mom grew up in Greenland, Manitoba, and had a very happy childhood with her parents and 10 siblings. She received her education in Greenland.

Our Mom married Leonard Dueck on July 15, 1951. Our parents would have celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary in ten days.

When God called her to become His child, Mom answered that call and lived a faithful Christian life. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on December 20, 1942, by Min. Harry Wenger. We always knew she had a concern for her family’s spiritual lives, and she carried that same concern to the end. Mom and Dad provided us children with a happy home, and we will be forever grateful to them for the stability and security we felt.

In 1955 Dad and Mom moved to Marchand, Manitoba, and farmed there until 1958, when they purchased a farm in the Elma, Manitoba area. This is where we children grew up and had many happy times. Mom supported Dad with the farming by helping him with the field work – baling hay and combining. The oldest girls were tasked with doing the housework and some of the cooking. Mom loved to garden and raised many vegetables. They sold the farm and moved into Whitemouth, Manitoba, in 1997. This is where she resided until her passing.

Mom was blessed with good health for most of her life, and lived a full, rich life. Mom was a very unselfish person. She knitted many pairs of mittens for her children and grandchildren, and when they all had enough, she gave to the unfortunate. When her arthritis got so bad that she couldn't use her fingers to knit anymore, she sat at her sewing machine and sewed many blankets. Each of her grandchildren has a lovely memento from Grandma. Mom loved to cook...meals were always a delicious affair at their house, and we loved going there to enjoy those meals.

Mom and Dad’s devotion to each other was a great example of what love means. Mom and Dad were missionaries all their lives, reaching out to neighbours and business acquaintances with their love and respect to mankind.

She left us with an assurance of her heavenly home and it is our desire to go and meet her there.

She is survived by her dear husband Leonard; children Sandra and Philip Penner, Corene Antle, Elaine Dueck, Sherwin and Evangela Dueck, Janice and Ron Dueck, Gayle Dueck, Lowell and Audrey Dueck, Russell and Rhonda Dueck, and LaVern and Marilee Dueck. There are 28 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.

She also leaves one sister Lottie and Eugene Quasso and one brother Peter and Norma Wiebe; four sisters-in-law, Velma Wiebe, Lydia Dueck, Emily Dueck, Carol Dueck and brother-in-law Denver Wiebe.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Agnes Wiebe, eight siblings, her parents-in-law, one granddaughter, two sons-in-law and a daughter-in-law.

The family wishes to express their thankfulness to Elaine for her loving care given to our Mother for the past number of years.
