Obituary of Paul Kraynyk

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach, MB. 

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father (Gido, Great-Gido) and brother Paul Kraynyk on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at the age of 84. 

Dad will be lovingly remembered by his children Rose Dale Preteau, Debbie (Bill) Froese and Trevor (Lori) Kraynyk. He also leaves to cherish his memory his grandchildren Ashley (Domi) Labossiere, Paul (Sally) Preteau, Edina-lil Preteau (Austin), Kyle Froese (Allysa), Chelsey Froese (Adam), Kaleigh Aschenbrener (Lee), Tanner Aschenbrener (Brooke), Dylan Kraynyk, Brendan Kraynyk and great-grandchildren Lincoln, Autumn and Adrik. Dad is survived by his sister Margaret Olynyk and sister-in-law Anne Kraynyk as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Dad is predeceased by his wife of 55 years Gladys Kraynyk, sisters Mary (John) Muzyka, Olga (Edward) Rozwood, Anne (John) Sokoliuk and brothers John, Mike, Nick and Bill Kraynyk, brother-in-law Mike Olynyk and his parents Dmytro and Katherine Kraynyk.

Dad was born December 11, 1938, in Vita, Manitoba. After completing his studies at St. Paul’s College in Winnipeg he held numerous accounting positions with various companies. His last position was as the Special Accounts Manager for MPIC where he retired at the age of 55. Throughout his life Dad played baseball in many leagues including proudly being inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008 for his time with the Vita Cubs. He continued playing ball and umping into his 80’s. He also enjoyed curling, hockey, fishing and golf. After retirement, Dad and Mom wintered in Florida for many years. Throughout his life he made many lifelong friends.

The family would like to acknowledge and especially thank Trevor and Lori for taking Dad into their home and caring for him. Dad was known to lovingly refer to Lori as his “nurse”.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Paul may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
