In loving memory of a wonderful husband, Dad, and brother.

After a life well lived and a courageous, hard-fought battle with cancer, Stan, age 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, with family at his side. His unwavering faith and quiet determination sustained him during the past year and a half since his diagnosis.

Born in Vita, Manitoba, Stan was the fourth child born to Mildred and Hrien (Mundi) Goodman. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Sylvia, wives Rose, Bev, and Ruby, and son-in-law Todd Miller. He is survived by his brother Marvin and sister Ethelyn.

His memory will be forever cherished by his wife Lois, son Glen (Marlene) and their children Mindy (Levi), Brooke (Jon), great-grandchildren, Sailor and Avonlea; son Grant (Pam), and their children Justin (Jenny), Cidney (Paul); daughter Jennifer, and her children Kierra, Brynn, and Micah, as well as a lifetime’s accumulation of many friends.

Stan was loved and appreciated in his own community and far beyond. He was a hard-working farmer for most of his life, retiring in his mid-sixties to become a hard-working sawyer! Known to many as "Stan Goodman the wood man," he spent many hours cutting and sawing lumber, also creating many pieces of rustic furniture.

He loved both of these careers, but his sawing/lumber business was a passion that allowed him to interact with many people. Anyone spending time with him would soon see his strength and determination. Yet even more admirable were the qualities of kindness, loyalty, a hard work ethic, humility, and generosity that so permeated who he was. He didn’t judge people and was a compassionate man, often helping those in need. His memory was clear and his sense of humor was on cue. He loved children and had this special spot between the bend of his arm and top of his lap where they fit right in and sat so contentedly. He was a good baseball player who played for Greenbush back in the day, enjoying his position in center field. Stan built his own casket with wood from a red pine tree he’d harvested more than two years ago, before his cancer diagnosis. He drank gallons of coffee, and anyone coming to visit or buy lumber was most often invited in to join him and have a tour of his beautiful home. It gave him great joy to see others appreciate his creations.

Thank you, dear friends, for supporting Stan and our family with your many thoughts, care and prayers. Our special thanks to Dr. Reimer and all of the staff involved with Bethesda CancerCare and the Southern Health Palliative care team who helped us to make the best of Dad’s last days at home.

We will miss him dearly.
