Obituary of Diedrich Plett Loewen

Dick Loewen, age 92, of Neepawa, Manitoba, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023, in the Neepawa Health Centre, Neepawa, MB. 

He was born to Isaac and Maria (Plett) Loewen on December 15, 1930, in rural Blumenort, Manitoba. 

Dick was baptized in March of 1951, and became a member of the Blumenort Church.  He moved to Mexico with his parents in 1952.  On October 11, 1953, he married Eileen (legally Ina Susan Hiebert) in Mexico.

Dick and Eileen and son Robert moved to Canada in 1964. They had a turkey farm at Pansy, Manitoba, from 1965 to 1974.  A new house was built in Blumenort. This was home for Dick and Eileen and their two children Robert and Valerie, until the children moved on and Eileen passed away.

Dick married Tina Reimer in Belize on February 29, 2004.  They resided in Blumenort until 2011 when they moved to Neepawa, Manitoba.  Dick was a member of the Living Hope Fellowship of Eden, Manitoba till his passing.

Dick had fairly good physical health until he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in May 2023.  On September 18, 2023, he was admitted a final time to the Neepawa Health Centre. His wife Tina, and children and granddaughter spent hours by his side till he slipped quietly away at 9:18 am on Monday, October 2, 2023.

He was preceded in death by three children: Linden at 16 months; twin girls, one was stillborn and one at two days of age; his first wife, Eileen; his parents; his siblings: Ben, John, Helen (Loewen) Friesen, David, Elizabeth (Loewen) Dueck, Tina (Loewen) Plett, and Frank in childhood.

He is survived by his second wife, Tina (Reimer) Loewen, and two children: Robert (Lois) of Neepawa and Valerie of Edmonton, Alberta; four grandchildren: Heidi (Wes) Wohlgemuth of Steinbach, Manitoba; Isaac (Ariana) of Louisa, Virginia; Dion Sheehan of Edmonton, Alberta; and Ryan Posen of New Westminster, British Columbia; two great-grandchildren: Zoey and Deklan.

A come and go viewing will take place on Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 7:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, Manitoba.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 7th, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Neepawa First Baptist Church, MB, Neepawa, MB.
