Dear Adina and family.
I first met John when we taught together at Southwood School and then met Adina as well. We appreciated John's warm friendship. Later John and I sang together in the Eastman Male Choir and Erna curled with Adina for many years. Enjoy the many good memories even as you grieve his passing.

Adina and family,
We met John when he came to pick up our daughter, Amanda, August 2009, to take her to Martha P. Rempel Centre in Steinbach. Little did we know then that this first meeting of van driver and passenger would be one that would make a lasting impression on our daughter, who came to know him as "Grandpa John". Amanda has autism and is non verbal. That didn't matter to John. He was so caring and kind and loved his job and those around him. He showed the meaning of acceptance and friendliness to our daughter and we became close to him too.There was never a lack of stories and conversations to share each morning when he picked Amanda up, and each evening, when he brought her home. My husband and I shared vegetables from our garden each summer and fall. When he retired from his job as van driver, we had John and Adina over for a visits to collect more goodies from the garden, and jars of jam and pickles too! Adina and family, please accept our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences. He will be very missed but we know that a small piece of "Grandpa John" will forever live in all of us that had the opportunity and honour to have had him in our lives.

My condolences to the family. John and I looked so much the same that people would be confused sometimes. I don't know if people will think I am John anymore. RIP

Sympathies and Condolances to Johnny's Family. We knew him as Uncle Johnny through our friend and his nephew Richard Sawatzky. We first met when Richard and some of us friends stayed w the Sawatzky's in Mitchell while attending some event at Steinbach Bible School I think. Johnny was a supper host as was Adina. And over the years as we would meet at different events Johnny always took the time to acknowledge us and share in conversation.
I always appreciated that about him. We were all blessed to know him and we share in your grief. God Bless you all.

To Aunt Adina and cousins Dale, Sharon, Candace and Michelle, Our deepest sympathies and prayers are with you as you mourn your loss. I have wonderful memories of your dad at family gatherings, family camp at Camp Jubilee, as the world crokinole champion, and many more. I always loved his smile, infectious joy and genuine care for his nieces and nephews. He was so gracious in consenting to yodel for my Dad one last time at his 90th birthday party.
We love you guys and are praying for you. May you continue to experience God's peace and comfort each day.

To the Family of Mr. Sawatzky,
Mr. Sawatzky was not only an incredible educator, but a great mentor and someone who believed "you can do anything you put your mind to" as he often said. He took an incredible interests in his former students and always took time to have a conversation with you and expressed sincere interest in your journey. There are very few educators like Mr. Sawatzky in this world and if you were lucky enough to have him as a teacher and mentor, count yourself lucky. Thank you Mr. Sawatzky for all the loving words of encouragement and support, you never let anyone accept that they could not do something...you always encourage them to aim for higher ground...RIP and you will be missed!

Mr. Sawatzky was my grade 6 teacher in a basement classroom(?) of Southwood School. I believe it was his first year on staff there—1970-1971. His kindness, encouragement, and genuine laughter will be remembered, as will the way he said one’s name on occasion in his “You don’t want to do that voice.” I remember it as a very good year!
Later, he often took the time to chat/catch up whenever we met.
My condolences to his wife Adina, his kids Dale, Sharon, Candace, and Michelle and all the rest of the family.

To the family of John Sawatzky;
John and I were colleagues on the staff of Southwood Elementary School in Steinbach for three years from 1971 to 1974. We did not see each other often after my wife and I moved to a new place of employment. When we did, there was always a warm feeling of friendship, which I appreciated very much. John always demonstrated a deep sense of caring for his students and fellow staff. His faith in God was evident both in word and deed. I treasure the memories. I offer my sincere condolences to you Alina, and rest of your family. May God bless you and comfort you as you grieve his departure, but also very much in the good memories as you celebrate his life.
