Obituary of Katharine (Katarina) Wiebe

Peacefully, with Agatha and Tilly by her side, Katarina Wiebe (nee Braun) went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Menno Home, Grunthal. She was just two weeks shy of 101 years old.

She is remembered with respect, admiration, and love by her daughters: Agatha Klassen (nee Wiebe), Tilly (Len) Neufeld, Clara (Peter) Ball and one son, John (Wanda) Wiebe; Seven grandchildren: Jen (Keith) Penner, Carrie Wiebe, Joel (Candace) Wiebe, Travis (Kim) Neufeld, Charlotte (Nic) Thiessen, Kristy (Darrin) Penner, and Rhiannon (Brian Scott) Ball. She leaves behind 17 great-grandchildren.

Katarina was predeceased by David Wiebe, her husband of 74 years, and Jake Klassen, husband to Agatha as well as nine siblings.

Katarina was born on October 21, 1922. Her parents John and Anna Braun lived in Gnadenfeld where she was born. She married David Wiebe on November 12, 1942. She lived all her years in the Grunthal area. 

Mom’s greatest joy was raising her children and the farm where we all grew up. The work, while hard and never ending, gave her much joy.  She had large gardens, milked cows every day, cooked, baked, did laundry, canned fruit, and vegetables, helped with a sewing club at Lister West, was part of the ladies sewing circle at the Chortizer Church, taught Sunday School and DVBS, to name just a few of the things that gave her pleasure. 

Mom lived a healthy, long life. She was quick to laugh and could do so until she cried and had those around her crying with laughter. Mom was also a prayer. We children all knew that she had us in her prayers daily. Her faith and trust in the Lord were strong and unwavering and she taught us well by example. 

She lived a good long life and will be greatly missed.

The come & go viewing will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 7:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with public viewing one hour prior to the service. 

Interment will take place at Grunthal Cemetery, Grunthal, MB.
