Obituary of Anita Quiring

Peacefully after a lengthy illness, Anita went home to her Father’s house on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Charleswood Care Centre, Winnipeg, MB.

Anita was born in Schoenau, Ukraine on May 9, 1940. She was employed at the HSC Nurse’s Cafeteria where she learned English. Over the years she also worked for Pauline Chambers, Dr. McCarthy Dentist Office, Manitoba Government Education & Labour Department, Block Brothers, Perament, and Honor and Quest Real Estate as a Real Estate Agent. After her retirement she worked part-time in Frank R. Avanthay’s Law Office.

Anita accepted her Lord and Saviour at the age of 12. She was baptized in March of 1943 at the South End Mennonite Brethren Church. She loved to serve the Lord through teaching Sunday school and through her involvement with many programs like the North Kildonan Neighbourhood Mom’s Program, the Church Food Committee, Sing/Serve Choir, Christian Reform Seniors’ Choir, and the Keenager Choir. She truly embraced her community by volunteering with all her heart at places like the Lung Association, Mennonite Central Committee, HSC, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Kidney Foundation, Rainbow Stage, and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

After Anita’s retirement she did her first stroke in oil and acrylic painting. She enjoyed wildlife and God’s creation and her many hobbies included curling, travelling, reading, crocheting, and coffee break. Her home was her mansion and she loved caring for the many flowers around her home. She loved gospel and classical music.

Anita was predeceased by her parents Gerhard and Katherina, her brothers Rudolph and Wilhelm, and her very dear friend Frank R. Avanthay.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Zelma of La Broquerie, as well as numerous cousins, relatives, and friends.

Anita was a forthright, intelligent, tenacious, outgoing, and bubbly person with strong perseverance and determination and a care free nature. She would often “shop, shop, shop, until you drop!” and enjoyed travelling to the United States, Mexico, Hawaii, and throughout Canada. She was a strong willed woman until the very end.

Anita’s family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Erroll Doermer for his patience and kindness, and for his compassionate and attentive care. They would also like to thank Home Care that looked after her: Andrea, Verna, Amanda, Wanda, Eleanor, and Marie.

Donations in memory of Anita may be made to The Gideon’s International.

“I have been so blessed to have met so many friends from different walks of life and happy memories to hold tight in my heart!”
