I worked with David for some time at Piston Ring. He was always a smiling face and was always with a hug or chat when needed. When I left to pursue a job elsewhere he was one person who I had a hard time saying goodbye too. I had randomly run into him a few years ago at KP mall and it was so great to catch up. To his family, I’m so sorry for your loss. He was an amazing person and will be deeply missed.

Sandy, Colin, Ashley and to your kiddos. I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you all each and every day. I don’t even know if I can put into words how much Father Black impacted my life. He renewed my love of singing. I have so many memories of singing with and for him. He was a wonderful man of God. I know he is rejoicing in heaven!

This powerful quote at Dave's touching memorial service speaks volumes of his life cut short and yet its far reaching influence.

Dave & Sandy were students at FGBI when we were on staff. Dave certainly had a vibrancy in his life and music, even then. He sang in a student trio and was on tour with me one spring. Good memories!
Sandy- may the Lord give you his grace and strength at this stage of the journey. God Bless You!

Sandy and family of Fr. Black. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
I can remember the day in May 1989 when Pastor Black walked into our office at Faith Christian Center and introduced himself. That began a lasting friendship and ministry together with him and Sandy. I know if my husband was here he would say he loved studying and discussing the Word of God with Pastor David. Many changes came about in that 13 years at Faith Christian Centre and later Christ The King Cathedral. Fr. David was a truly gifted leader and teacher to so many in the way of Liturgical worship. I loved to listen to him play the piano and have him lead us to God in worship songs.
Fr. David, you will be greatly missed.

Dear Sandy and precious family,
Our hearts feel your great loss; both of you have shown God’s love through your service to our Saviour. Where ever Dave went he left a mark; his great talent and gift of music have inspired and uplifted countless people. It was a privilege to know you both and our thoughts and prayers are with you. We have fond memories of visits to Phoenix and time together in Calgary. Heaven’s gain, till we meet again Dave. Imagine the music!
Much love Jack and Deanna Szakacs

Dave’s was a life cut short, but our loss is heaven’s gain. We do not mourn as those who have no hope because we will meet Dave again.
Dave was a god-fearing man who went where God sent him and did the work that needed to be done. He faithfully pursued the things God willed for him and nothing stopped him from living out the will of God. Only eternity will reveal how his life, unselfishly lived, has touched so many. His was a life of compassion and service.
Rest, my friend, safe in the arms of Jesus.
Cousin Sandra, words seem inadequate to try to express how deeply we sorrow with you. Colin and Ashley and Lori, our condolences as you support your mom and sister. May you feel the strength of God, friends, and family as you journey through this time of grief.

Father Black will forever be in my memory as the man who got me to come out of my shell and sing, loud and proud! Upon changing Churches, he and Sandy and Colin went out of their way to encourage me and quickly became like family. He encouraged and helped to nurture my love of the Lord, and taught me how to live by Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
