William Sobering, age 83, passed away on September 6, 2012 in Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, MB. He willed be sadly missed by his wife of 6o years Gladys, his children Karen (Henry), Brenda (Jake), Jenny ( Gary), Ken (Linda) and daughter-in-law Acie, grandchildren Shannon, Brooks, Teresa, Robert, Nathan, Clayton, Lucy, Jamie, Tracy, Amber, Carrie, Joey, nine great grandchildren, and many family and friends. He is also survived by brothers John, Frank (Lena), Henry (Kathy), Art (Dorothy), Walter (Dora), Jim (Nita) and sisters Anne Wiebe, Helen (Jack) Harder and sister-in-law Irene Sobering. He was predeceased by his parents, son Darren, brothers Peter, Ed, Albert, Ben and sisters Eva Derksen, and Barbara in infancy and two brothers-in-law. William was born in Steinbach to Henry and Magdalena Sobering February 14, 1929 and lived his whole life in the area. As a young man he worked for Steinbach Creamery delivering milk for 10 years during which time he met his wife Gladys and started a family. He was later employed by the Town of Steinbach for 27 years and after retirement from the Town of Steinbach, he went to work for the Department of Highways for 10 years. He loved the outdoors, whether it was fishing, camping, picking blueberries or working in his garden. As his health declined, he enjoyed sitting and relaxing in the sun outside. Thank you to Palliative Care and their wonderful caring staff, and thanks to Dr. Duerksen and the nurses at Bethesda Hospital for all their care and compassion. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 10, 2012 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Steinbach, MB with interment at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.. A viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfield Drive, Steinbach, MB on Sunday, September 9, 2012 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave. Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9
