Obituary of Helena Loewen

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Helena R. Loewen. Helena was welcomed into her eternal home on Friday, January 5, 2024.

She will be deeply missed by her children: George (Colleen), Marie (Ron), John (Diane), James (Adeline), and Tim (Donna) as well as her 16 grandchildren: Josh (Sara), Kate, Alicia (Ray), Clancy, Dillon (Robyn), Jeff (Juliana), Zach (Marietta), Janessa (Mariano), Stefan (Rena), Jaylyn (Nicolas), Josiah (Susan), Jodi (Jake), Shannon (Isaiah), David, Lisa (William) and Taran; 23 great-grandchildren and extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Jack in 2020, her parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Mom was born in Steinbach and other than a few short stints in Winnipeg, lived her whole life here.

Mom graduated from St. Boniface School of Nursing in 1958 and married Jack later the same year. Together they raised five children and ran a successful business.

Mom worked as a nurse in public health and a private medical clinic, but being a mother, grandmother and eventually great-grandmother was her greatest passion.

Mom also loved to travel, crochet, garden, do crosswords and spend time with family and friends.

Life for mom had challenges too. As mobility issues limited her opportunities, she enjoyed using her caregiving and compassion in helping young women through Grace Haven Pregnancy Center.

She was close to her many cousins and double cousins. She loved to celebrate her birthday with friends and relatives including all of the Helens in her life!

Her pursuit of God started at a young age and remained a priority throughout her life. Scripture memorization was very important to her and at Christmas gatherings she would recite all of Luke Chapter 2. In her last hours of life she whispered “Jesus has done so much for us. Thank you Lord”.

The funeral service for Helena Loewen will take place on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with viewing prior to the service. Burial will take place at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
