Obituary of Lottie Rosalie Guenther

Lottie Rosalie Guenther, age 95 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Rest Haven Care Home, Steinbach, MB.

Lottie leaves behind her two daughters and their families.

Pamela & Roy Kehler – Jaqueline & Phil with Eden, Jordan with Quinn & Scarlett, Lori and Wilf Peters – Brock & Rachel, Olivia & Dan, and Cole. She is also survived by her sister Veleda Goulden and sisters-in-law Edith Guenther and Thelma Guenther.

Lottie was predeceased by her loving husband Peter in May of 2023 after 70 years of marriage.

Lottie was the second child born to John R. and Aganetha Unger on October 18, 1928, in Steinbach, MB.

After finishing Grade Eight, she went to work for her father repairing watches and later bookkeeping for L.A. Barkman.

Lottie enjoyed skating and was often at the local rink with friends. That’s where Peter caught her eye with his exceptional skating ability and when he asked, Mom let him tie her skates.

They were married on July 6, 1952. After a couple of years, they bought a lot on Lumber Avenue and Mom drew up the plan for their house to be built.

Mom made a beautiful home and enjoyed gardening. She was well known for her artistic cakes, canned peaches and growing lovely flowers. Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling. They went to Mexico, Hawaii, Europe, Japan and on a couple cruises. Later in life Palm Springs became the favorite winter escape. She was adventurous being the first to sign up for parasailing in Mexico, x-country skiing in Sandilands, golfing with Peter, hiking desert trails in Palm Springs and at 60 she took downhill skiing lessons so she wouldn’t be left out of the fun.

Mom was a kind, loving person with an unwavering faith in God. She loved and was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, praying for each of them every day.

She will be forever missed.
