Steve and Marilyn’s home felt like family to us. I treasured the joy, their kindness-I always felt welcome. His joy in spite of all of his health struggles has been an encouragement to me-no matter how much he was suffering, he faced it with a smile and with an underlying joy. Though we haven’t been able to visit in eons, our hearts break with all of his family…extended and immediate (Brinks, DeVries, Driegers, and all of the others). From my husband and I (Elizabeth and Lazaro Duarte) as well as my parents (James and Marie Mack)…you are in our hearts and our prayers.

Sincere sympathy and condolences to Marilyn and family. I had a lot of laughs and good chats with Steve when we ushered together at Grace Baptist Church. You could often track him down by following the laughter. I know he will be missed by many and, although it had been many years since I last saw him, I was saddened to hear of his passing.

When I think of Steven, I think of laughter in the Baptist Church Foyer. I always remember the day he said he liked my chopper and showed me a picture of his custom Triumph. I thought he was the coolest of the "old married guys". To the Brink family, my thoughts and prayers are with you through this difficult time. Take care.

Steve was an uncle born of love then blood. Steve and Marilyn welcomed me into their home and farm every summer from my solo trips on the Greyhound bus at 8 years old to 15, where I helped out at DVBS. One memory that I'll always remember and laugh at now was the time he made me cry by jokingly telling me much he hated kids. Fast forward 30 years, and Steve was surrounded by a pile of children and grandchildren whom he adored and cherished beyond measure.
He imparted his wisdom and skills to my own children by inviting us to his annual chicken slaughters. A memory my own children will never forget. He was so proud at my sons capabilities to catch the chickens:)
Steven's legacy lives on through the laughter, love, and lessons he shared with us all. Rest peacefully, dear uncle. You will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
