Obituary of Eddie Jake Friesen

With heavy hearts we announce the death of Eddie Friesen, 69 years old, of Kleefeld, formerly New Bothwell, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. He died peacefully, surrounded by his family at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB., following multiple strokes and a diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Friesen, son Jake (Dora) Friesen, daughter Lisa (Gerold) Peters, son Peter (Tina) Friesen, daughter Anita (Larry) Loewen and nine grandsons and seven granddaughters.

Eddie was predeceased by one premature son, his mother & father, three sisters and one brother.

Dad was born on November 8, 1954 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. On May 14, 1978, he was baptized at the Warman Bergthaler Mennonite Church Saskatchewan.

He married his beloved Mary (Berg) on October 6, 1984. They raised their children in New Bothwell.

If you knew dad, you’d know he had an interest in anything rusty. He enjoyed hauling scrap metal and finding random things to bring home and tinker with. He was a hobby farmer and he took pride in caring for his animals.

Mom and Dad spent many weekends in the summer at music festivals. Dad never was one to sit in his chair long. He would strike up a conversation with anyone.

Dad prided himself with his children. He loved each one so much. And he loved playing and talking with his grandchildren.

Dad had struggles in his life but at last, the Lord set him free. The last weeks of his life he brought everything to Jesus so that He could call him Redeemed. God's grace is sufficient. We have the peace in knowing that he is with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Bethesda regional Health Centre and the family and friends, whose prayers are appreciated.

The come & go viewing will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. followed by a devotional at 7:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Reinland Mennonite Church, Grunthal, MB., followed by the interment at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Eddie may be made to Birchwood Funeral Chapel to help assist the family with funeral expenses.
