Almost 65 years ago Rosella became my “sister” when I was about 10 years old. I was probably an annoying kid who got in the way, but my strongest memory is going over and hanging out and eating – Rosella always seemed to be ready to put buns, cheese, pickles, and coffee on the table (the raw ham with onions was Norm’s idea, not hers!). So from 1959 – 1969 was the time I loved going over to talk, eat, borrow Rosella’s accordion, babysit little Erica and Bob, and so on. Then from 1975 – 1985 we were again neighbours and the relationship changed in some ways – Rosella now babysat Melanie and Luc during choir practice and many other times, but most outstanding were the Wednesday night after-choir coffee and conversation sessions, the impromptu faspa get-togethers, the camping times, the work collaborations, and the taken-for-granted opportunities to visit here or there. I also really appreciated the times Rosella & Norm visited in Toronto or Kimberley or Florida – including a memorable trip together to Disney in Orlando. And of course the times when I returned to Kleefeld, which always included the family dinner or faspa with Rosella serving buns, honey, cheese, pickles, and coffee. Rosella was always the steady, usually optimistic, practical, outspoken sister-in law whom you could count on to say what she thought, stick up for her family, carry on with stoic determination, share her “love language” which I understood as serving food, and striving to live her faith. Her memory will live on and she will be missed. Our deepest condolences and sympathy reaches to all the family members.

I have fond memories of Rosella. I remember her as cheerful with a booming laughter that lit up her face! Wishing peace and comfort to her siblings and children.

We can't help but think of both Rosella and Norm in connection with the Mitchell Senior Choir. Rosella's sparkle, her welcoming heart, and her gracious manner endeared her to people. There was no doubt about her love for God or people. Condolences to her family.

Rhonda and I send condolences to the Bartel family. We reflect on the generosity, hospitality and courageous faith demonstrated by Rosella and Norman when they led the Kleefeld EMC youth (years ago). They left a wonderful example for us and facilitated many great evenings of growing up in a safe, supportive Christian environment. Turns out they raised a great family too!
We wish you comfort, joy and strength while you grieve and remember your mom.

Rosella took wonderful care of my mom when she was dying many years ago. Both mom and myself were beyond appreciative and grateful for her help. My condolences to the family.

Our condolences to all the families. I remember Rosella when in the 1970’s she had a few of us local Kleefeld girls at her place teaching us some sewing on her old fashioned pedal machine. It was probably for pioner girls clubs . She was such a sweet lady.
