Obituary of Abraham Dyck

Abraham Dyck, aged 85 years, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB.

Abe was born to Franz and Aganetha Dyck of Mexico on January 30, 1939. He was the sixth of seven children.

He was predeceased by two brothers (David and Peter), and one sister (Katharina Enns).

He is survived by his wife Katharina, six children: Aganetha, Katharina (Allan Belous), Margaretha (Erwin Dueck), Jacob (Brenda), Helena (Abe Goertzen) and Anna. As well as six grandchildren: Clarissa (Jaimie Broesky), Gianina (Ryan Hamilton), Damian (Kristen), Cody, Connor (Kiera), Zachary (Tina); and three great-grandchildren: Liam, Natalie and Wren.

He was married to Katharina (Wiebe) on January 20, 1963.

During the first eleven years of their marriage they lived in Mexico and they started their family of five children. Having two deaf children, they looked for better opportunities for their education and language. They decided to move to Central California in 1974 where they lived, worked and completed their family of six children, the youngest also being deaf.

Abe worked as a welder and fabricator, building fork lifts for the fruit packing industry in Reedley, California. In 1981 during a vacation trip to Manitoba, they decided to buy a house and to move their family to Manitoba. Where he worked at Granny’s Poultry for the rest of his working career doing maintenance, welding and fabricating equipment for the poultry plant. Before retiring fully, he passed on some of his skills as a welder to his son Jacob.

Abe enjoyed many activities, such as fishing with friends, camping with the family in Sandy Hook, and building a vegetable garden every summer with his wife Katharina. They also enjoyed traveling to visit extended family in Mexico, friends in California, and some other road trips near and far with family and friends.

One of the most important things for Abe was his faith in Jesus Christ. When they purchased their house in Mitchell, they also found a church in Blumenort, the Blumenort EMC. The church had a ministry to the deaf community, since three children were deaf, it was very important for his family. He always felt it was of utmost importance to have a relationship with Jesus Christ and to trust in Him always.

Abe being quiet natured, also really enjoyed socializing, going out for coffee and playing crokinole and other games with church friends and friends in their condo building. He had a unique sense of humour that he imposed on his children, grandchildren and friends until his very last days. Those we will cherish forever in our hearts.

Abe lived out the rest of his years in the Steinbach area. The last few days being some of the hardest for him, he just was not able to hold on any longer. Monday, July 15, 2024, at 1:01 a.m., Abe Dyck went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savour with his wife all his children, at his side. The whole family is so very grateful for all that the medical staff did for him and the family for the time he spent in Bethesda ER. It allowed all of us to develop a few more memories to hold on to and cherish forever.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with the interment at Blumenort Community Church Cemetery, Blumenort, MB. To join the family via livestream, please click HERE shortly before the service.
