Obituary of Tina Hildebrand

Tina Hildebrand (nee Neufeld) of Plum Coulee, formerly of Steinbach and Winnipeg passed away at Boundary Trails Health Centre on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at the age of 71. Tina (Neufeld) Hildebrand was born on November 7th, 1936 in Schoenhorst, Ukraine. Her parents were Heinrich and Margaretha (Bergen) Neufeld. In 1943, Mom’s family left the Ukraine and travelled with many others to Germany. In 1947, with the kind help of the Frank Letkemann family, particularly Mr. Frank Letkemann her Dad’s brother who sponsored them, they were able to come to Canada. They made their new home, first in Graysville, MB and later in Steinbach. In Steinbach, she attended school and was baptized in the Steinbach Mennonite Church on May 22, 1955. In 1951, at the age of 15, she started working in St. Pierre in a sewing factory. In 1954, she and her sister Helen moved to Winnipeg where she worked in different sewing factories. On August 29th, 1959, she married Abe Hildebrand. They made their home in Winnipeg and attended the Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church and later joined the Springfield Heights Mennonite Church. In 1960, they built their new home on Roberta Ave., and then later moved to the North Kildonan area. On June 12, 1963, son David was born and on September 20, 1965, Kathy was born. On July 25, 1968, Peter was born. The years in Winnipeg were happy ones, full of activities centered on the home, school and church. She was happy to see her children grow, study and take on careers and make their own homes. David married Dianne Elias, who sadly passed away in March 2004. He married Loretta Krahn in 2006, and they were blessed with a son Scott on Oct. 1, 2007. Kathy married Ken Wiebe in 1998, and they were blessed with a daughter Brooklyn on July 18, 2003, and a son Jadyn on June 9, 2005. Peter moved into his own home, but had to move back home due to illness. A new chapter began when they moved to Plum Coulee to be closer to the children. They were also blessed with a loving new church family. In 2000, Mom was diagnosed with lung cancer and underwent chemotherapy treatment. Due to her illness, she was no longer able to do certain things she loved, such as attending the Springfield Heights Verein, and playing mandolin in Mr. Kliewer’s music group. Although she faced health challenges over the last seven years, she met them with dignity and a heart to continue serving others. The family is thankful to God, and grateful for all the years we had with mom. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bergthaler Mennonite Church in Plum Coulee with viewing at the church prior to the service. Interment to follow at Heritage Cemetery in Steinbach. If friends so desire donations may be made to Samaritan’s Purse -Canada; 20 Hopewell Way NE, Calgary, Alberta T3J 5H5 or Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Drive; Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9
