Peacefully on November 17, 2007, at her residence in Steinbach, Maria Funk, with her family at her side, passed away at the age of 86 years, 3 months, and 2 days. She is survived by four sons: Raymond (Ellie) their children Blain & Colton; John (Carol) their children Jeremy (Stephanie), Cory, Cherise, and Jenni-Michelle; Alvin (Kelli) their daughter Kaycee; Peter (Dianne) their children Robynn, Jordan, & Stephen, three sisters, one brother-in-law, five sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews and friends. Mom was predeceased by her husband Abram T. Funk on March 9, 1998, five brothers and two sisters. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Thursday, November 22, at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 23 at the Chortitzer Mennonite Church, 479 Hanover Street, Steinbach, at 1:30 p.m. with Pastors John Wieler and Stan Kehler officiating. Interment will take place at Randolph Cemetery. Pallbearers for Maria Funk are her grandsons: Jeremy, Cory, Jordan, Blain, Colton, and Stephen. Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters: Stephanie, Robynn, Cherise, Kaycee, and Jenni-Michelle. In lieu of flowers, should family and friends so desire, donations may be made to the SEHA - Bethesda Cancer Care, or to a charity of their choice. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Dyck and Bethesda Hospital Staff, all Mom’s palliative and Home Care Aids for the exceptional care they provided for Mom.
