Obituary of Raymond John Mayer

On Sunday, November 25th, 2007, Raymond, husband of Helen Phyllis, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully passed away. Dad was born in Vera, SK, to John Albert and Katherine (Claya) Mayer, married Helen (Fryza) on November 22, 1947, settled in the Anola area in the early 1950’s. Ray and Helen started a small mixed farm which in turn developed into a dairy farm. Dad was very committed to providing for his family. This commitment did take him away a lot of the time, but he always made sure his family was taken care of. There was never a baby he didn’t feed at the dinner table. Daddy’s lap it was. To this day, Dad always asked how Mom is doing and if the babies are being taken care of. Always concerned about someone other than himself to the very end. We are the blessed family, Phyllis /Ed Greskiw, Barry (deceased) /Darlene Mayer, Marlaine/Lee Ellis, Debbie/Robert Bergman, Rose/Milan Hadaller-Horvat, Val/Ron Carriere, Sandy/Greg Hagman, 16 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. All of us remember special times with Dad/grandpa, which we will cherish and hold dear to our hearts. We as a family respected Dad’s strong faith in his belief of eternal life after resurrection of a life of paradise on earth. Raymond was predeceased by his parents, John and Katherine Mayer, parents-in-law Michael and Marianna Fryza, six siblings, of which he was the last surviving member, only son, Barry, and great-grandchildren Dianna and Bobbie. We would like to thank Rest Haven Nursing Home for the care they gave Dad during his last couple of years and Steinbach Bethesda Hospital for having given Dad comfort in his last hours. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Anola (Highway 12). A private burial to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
