Obituary of Henry Hildebrandt

Henry Hildebrandt, of Niverville, Manitoba (formerly of Chilliwack, British Columbia) passed away Saturday, December 1st, 2007 at 12:15 a.m. at the Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home in Winnipeg. Henry was born March 28, 1916 in Neuendorf, Ukraine to Wilhelm and Anganetha (nee Regier) Hildbrandt. Henry had 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Henry was predeceased by his parents, 3 sisters, 2 brothers, 2 daughters, 2 grandchildren and 2 sons-in-law. He leaves to mourn, his wife of 69 years Katharina Hildebrandt (nee Martens), 1 daughter Margaret Redekop and 1 granddaughter Catherine Redekop. In 1942 Henry was baptized by Gerhard Dyck in Neuendorf Ukraine. Henry and Katharina had three daughters, one daughter who passed away in 1940 in Neuendorf, a daughter Margaret (Redekop) who currently resides in Niverville, and Anita (Berthelet) who passed away in 1988 in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Dad was a quiet man, very hard working, kind hearted and generous. After retirement he spent a lot of time playing games such as dominos, puzzling, doing yard work, walking, bike riding, going to the local market in Chilliwack and driving to Niverville every year to help his daughter Margaret and son-in-law David. Mom and Dad were members and faithfully attended the Eden Mennonite Church in Chilliwack, B.C. In June 2001 they moved to Niverville, Manitoba to be closer to their daughter Margaret and her family and there joined the Glenlea Mennonite Church. As time passed, Dad became weaker and this required him to move to the Bethania Personal Care Home in Winnipeg where he resided for just over a year. He never complained nor did he want to burden his family, and often expressed this concern to his daughter. You could see the sadness in his eyes and how he missed being near his wife and being home. Dad was always thankful for visits and made his gratefulness known by his words. He would say thank you for coming, come again (even though he was very quiet during the visit he still appreciated the company). Dad may you find the comfort and peace that you so longed for in your last days. There are many mansions in my Father’s house….you are home now and we thank God that you are now at rest. The family would especially like to thank the staff at the Bethania Personal Care Home for the care they provided. The funeral service will be held at Glenlea Mennonite Church on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with interment at Glenlea Cemetery.
