Obituary of Walter Yarema

WALTER YAREMA Walter was born May 23, 1942 at Vita Hospital to Olga and Harry Yarema from Rosa, Manitoba. They resided there for many years. Walter was predeceased by his mom at an early age of 14 years old. His Dad, aunts and uncles took care of Walter, and he became a very loving and generous man. Walter attended high school at St. Malo and later found employment with Medo Land Dairies in Grunthal to help out financially with the farm. Walter loved sports, especially baseball. That’s where he saw this girl (Irene) watching the game at Petrick’s baseball diamond. He knew she was the one for him, and they were married five years later on September 5, 1964 at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Sarto. Two years later, they were blessed with the arrival of Lisa and a year later with Lesley. Walter was very proud of his children. Lisa resides in Ste. Annes, MB and Les married Sheila and resides in Rosa. Walter was employed with Wilson Auto Electric – at first as a laborer and later as a supervisor. He was employed for 29 years, but had to leave for health reasons. A few years later, he found employment with Carlton Hatcheries in Grunthal, MB. He worked there for a few years, but in 2000, he had a massive heart failure. He survived this endeavor with honors!; of course, with the help of God and many prayers. He had been ill since, and in November 2006 we were informed that Walter had lung cancer and had 4 to 6 months to live. Walter did not want any treatment and survived till Tuesday, January 22, 2008. Walter was a good provider, husband and friend. He always got compliments on his gardening and landscaping. Walter was predeceased by his Mom (Olga), Dad (Harry), infant son (Mitchell), father-in-law (Jacob), mother-in-law (Helen) and by many aunts, uncles and friends. Special acknowledgement and thanks to Mom (Thanks for the delicious borsch.), many family and friends who came by or called to see how I was doing. These visits and calls meant a lot and were very much appreciated. Many thanks to the doctors and staff at St. Pierre Hospital for the special attention Walter received during his stay at the hospital. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr, Steinbach on Friday, January 25 at 7:00 p.m. with prayers to follow at 7:30 p.m. High mass will be held at the St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Sarto on Saturday, January 26 at 10:00 a.m. Interment at the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Rosa, MB. Lunch to follow at Rosa Hall. Donations in Walter’s memory may be made to the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery Fund, Rosa, MB.
