Peacefully with his family by his side at Bethesda Hospital, Cornie Klassen passed away at the age of 82 years. Born in Rosenfeld, Manitoba, Cornie will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jessie of 60 years and 6 children, Dorothy (George) Peters, Harold, Cornie (Caron), Jessie (Sonny) Peters, Larry (Lori), Melvin Klassen, 22 grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Ed and Martin and five sisters, Sadie, Jessie, Eva, Betty and Mary. Cornie was predeceased by his parents Katherine and Peter, one daughter Mary Anne in infancy, four brothers, Henry, Jake Peter, John and four sisters Helen, Dorothy, Ann and Tina. Da d worked as a woodsman in his earlier years and worked at the Steinbach Hatchery (Feed mill) for 20 years. He spent the latter part of his working career as a carpenter and drywaller. The last five years before his retirement was spent at Granny’s Poultry in the maintenance department. He will be remembered as one of the founding members of the Mitchell Seniors Centre spending many hours on the board and supervising activities. He loved fishing, camping, woodworking, bowling and spending time with family and friends. He loved to laugh and tell stories. Cornie was a kind and gentle soul who touched the lives of many. A special thank you to Dr. Krahn and the nursing staff at the Bethesda Hospital for the tender care he received during his brief stay. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach on Sunday, February 3 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. and at the church prior to the service. The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 4 at 1:30 p.m. at the Chortitzer Mennonite Church, 479 Hanover St, Steinbach with interment at the Mitchell CMC Cemetery.
