Obituary of Joseph Zigarlick

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and brother, Joseph Zigarlick. Joe died at home, at the age of 93, on February 6, 2011. Joe was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 20th, 1917. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife Antoinie (Toni) in 1985 and is survived by his son Eldon, granddaughter Caitlin, sisters Vicky, Caroline and Rose and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Joe grew up in Carrick, Manitoba and served his country in World War II from 1941-1946. He was a 50-year member of Transcona Legion Branch #7. Joe married Toni in 1947. He enjoyed his career as a heavy equipment operator, and retired in 1981. Joe had a very special relationship with his granddaughter Caitlin, who always made him smile and brought a twinkle to his eye. Grandpa always had a pot of soup, a story to tell and a meal to share. Those memories will be forever cherished and Grandpa is greatly missed. While we are sad he is gone and he will always be missed. We are grateful he was full of life and independent until the end. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach.
