Obituary of Lisa Marie Doerksen

On June 10, 1985 at approximately 5:20 a.m. we were blessed with the quietest, floppiest little girl. She weighed 5lbs 10oz, was 19 inches long and we named her Lisa Marie Doerksen. It was a struggle from day one for her to survive. Lisa spent her first month in the hospital because her throat muscles were too weak to swallow. The blood tests that were done at the time left her bruised from head to foot. Her determination to survive got stronger over time and she grew to enjoy her school years, youth group, and work at the Red River Workshop. Her loves in life were Babies, Cats & Dogs, and Music, her sister Jennifer, and brothers Christopher and Andrew. As Chris got married her relationship with Tess grew and when they had Keaton her life bloomed with wanting to do all she could for him. Lisa was looking forward to a visit to Grande Prairie, Alberta where Jennifer moved to be closer to Paul Bergen. Lisa hated to see Jennifer leave but her love for her was so much that she was OK with it. Lisa had full intentions of going to Grande Prairie now in spring, but God had different plans for all of us. Lisa was baptized on May 16, 2005 into the Stuartburn Sommerfeld Mennonite Church, where she attended from the time she was about 8 years old. We will miss her very much and the wedding planned for May 17, 2008 will also be different, we’re sure. We have peace in knowing that Lisa loved Jesus and is resting without any pain or need for medications to make her days go on. Lisa Marie passed away January 31, 2008 at approximately 5:05 a.m. at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach Manitoba. It looked like she just peacefully kept on sleeping after taking her bi-pap mask off. She leaves to cherish her memory her parents, Henry & Susan Doerksen, one sister, Jennifer and fiancee Paul Bergen, two brothers, Christopher and wife Tess, and Andrew, and one nephew, Keaton. She is also survived by her grandparents George and Mary Klassen, and Cornelius and Elma Doerksen, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Lisa also leaves her special friends at the Red River Workshop in St Malo. Thanks to family and friends for all of your love, prayers, meals, phone calls and cards. A special thanks to Dr. Horne and the staff in emergency at Bethesda Hospital the night of January 27, 2008 and to Dr. Duerksen and the staff that cared for Lisa until God called her home on Thursday January 31, 2008. Viewing will be held at the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church in New Bothwell on Monday, February 4, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will also be held at the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church in New Bothwell on Tuesday, February 5 at 2:00 p.m. with interment at the church cemetery. Donations may be made to assist the family with funeral expenses. Thank You, Lisa’s Family
