Obituary of Mary Bergen

Peacefully on February 2, 2008 at the Bethesda Hospital, Mary Bergen (nee Dueck), aged 79 of Steinbach, went to her eternal home. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Cornelius and her children: Larry (Viera) of Wpg, Menno (Tamara) of Kleefeld, Gordon of Wpg, Anna (Bert) Toews of Steinbach, Eldon (Cindy) of Wpg. She will be also missed by her 12 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers. Mom loved her gardening and many houseplants. She also devoted her time to making blankets for the poor in Russia. She saved scraps from old blankets and clothing to make patchwork blankets so that nobody would go cold. Mom was very creative and was able to find value and a place for everything. She also enjoyed crocheting blankets. Many of the patterns from her blankets came from her own imagination. She made each of her children a wedding blanket. It was also very important to her to have her blanket chest full so she had enough for all her grandchildren to pick on out on their 16th birthday. We will miss her big pots of soup that she loved to make when she knew that any of us children where coming home to visit. Viewing will be Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Church, 84 Oak Ave, Grunthal with devotional at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 7, at 2:00 p.m. also at the Grunthal EMB Church. Interment at Grunthal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your local food bank. The family would like to thank Dr. Ilchyna and the caring hospital staff.
