Obituary of Jacob (C. H.) Hiebert

My dear husband, our dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, and great-great-grandpa, was born March 4, 1923 to Cornelius and Helena Hiebert at Osterwick, Manitoba. He passed away Monday, February 18, 2008 at the Bethesda Hospital with his dear wife and children at his side, singing him into the Kingdom of Heaven. He took his schooling in the Aron community, where he lived for most of his youth. Upon confession of his faith in Jesus Christ, he was baptized on June 13, 1943, by Peter S. Wiebe, at the Chortitzer Church in Randolph. He strongly embraced this faith in the latter part of his life and unto the end. On June 6, 1948, he married me, Justina Friesen. We shared 59 years together. We were blessed with 11 children. Jake was a quiet and gentle husband and a father who provided us with the necessities of life. He was a man of few words, however, he did have a way with words (one-liners) that would make you laugh and feel at ease. Lasting friendships were made easily because of his personality. Jacob was diagnosed with a congestive heart condition in 2007. This was a struggle for him, but his faith in God allowed him to accept what God had in store for him. With God’s healing hand upon him, he experienced little pain. The Lord was gracious to him and provided him patience to endure his condition. He realized his life’s journey on earth was coming to an end, and so he made preparations to meet Jesus, his Saviour and friend. The Lord blessed him with so much goodness and kindness, which he transferred to others. His desire to leave this earthly place in exchange for a better place, a home in Heaven. Another desire he had was to see all his dear children and their children’s’ children to come follow him to Heaven. Left to cherish his precious memories are his wife, Justina, seven sons and four daughters: Dave (Susie), Martha, Neil (Verna), John (Elma), Jake, Ed (Marge) Elisabeth (Doug Post), Annie, Linda (Ed Wiebe), Henry (Elsie), Daniel (Christine); 28 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Jake is also survived by two sisters: Helena Giesbrecht, Paraguay, SA, Elizabeth (Jacob Bergen). He was predeceased by his parents, four brothers, two sisters, and one great-granddaughter Breanna. Heartfelt thanks to all those who also graciously loved, cared, visited, prayed, and ministered to him during his illness. The Family A viewing will be held Thursday, February 21, 2008, at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach, MB, at 7:00 p.m., with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held Friday, February 22, at 1:30 p.m., at the Chortitzer Mennonite Church, 479 Hanover Street, Steinbach with interment at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach. If friends so desire donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Drive; Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9 or to Die Herrliche Botshaft, Box 968, Steinbach, MB R5G 1N7.
