Obituary of George Schroeder

Our dear husband, dad, grandpa, and brother was born April 8, 1939 to John P. and Gertrude Schroeder in Paraguay, South America. George passed away suddenly at his residence in Mitchell, MB on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008 at the age of 68. Left to cherish his precious memories are his beloved wife of 41 years, Kathy Broesky; children, Jacqueline Cathy, Brenda Lori, Derek George, Tammy Gloria, Stephanie LaDawn (Jeremy) Wiens and Christina Dawn; grandsons, Nathan Schroeder, Alexander, Samuel and their dad, Cameron Peters, as well as Trace Wiens; special friends of the family Michael Palmer and Kristan Loeppky. He is survived by brother Ed (Theresa), sisters Tina (Neil) Warkentin, Helen (Andy) Blatz and Mary (Peter) Penner; brothers-in-law John (Edna), Jake (Lia), Cornie (Pauline), Peter Wiens, Aaron Neufeld, Martin, Peter Broesky; sisters-in-law-Anne (Aaron) Wiebe, Nettie Penner, Helen (Stan) Banman and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, the late John P. and Gertrude Schroeder, parents-in-law, the late John W. and Anna Broesky, one son, Robert, one sister who died in infancy, two sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law as well as some nieces and nephews. Dad was a man after God’s own heart-strong in his faith, loyal to his family as well as a man of integrity which was evident in his daily life and to all who knew him. He loved his family dearly, unconditionally, always putting them ahead of himself and sacrificing so much for the well-being of his wife. Dad was an employee with Via Rail for 31 years from 1964-1995 as their most valuable chef—he was an expert in the culinary arts. Some railroad moments to remember were cooking for the Queen and for some celebrities. In his early years, Dad worked for Champs Chicken (KFC) where he received recognition from Col. Sanders for the invention of his gravy. Dad had a passion for playing golf which took him to many tournaments throughout his lifetime and put many a trophy upon the shelf. Dad did an extensive amount of travelling with his family throughout his lifetime. These memories will be treasured forever. Dad was faithful to his church, where he was soundman for over 20 years. We love you dearly but realize the Lord wanted you home. Viewing will be held at the Mitchell Chortitzer Mennonite Church on Friday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church, 360 McKenzie, Steinbach on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with interment at the Mitchell CMC Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made to help with the funeral expenses or to the St. Pierre Youth for Christ, Box 575, St. Pierre Jolys, MB R0A 1V0.
