Katharina Wieler was born February 10, 1916 south of Swift Current, SK. She passed away peacefully at the Steinbach Bethesda Hospital on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 9:43 a.m. As a young girl her parents moved to Mexico where she grew up. She met and married Cornelius Wieler in 1933 and raised most of their family there. In 1953 they decided to move back to Manitoba. Her greatest joy was to have her children and grandchildren come to visit. We enjoyed her Sunday lunches of chicken noodle soup and lemon pie. She also enjoyed birthdays, giving gifts, sewing blankets, etc. Through her example she taught us kindness, generosity, forgiveness and faith in God. We will miss her warm smiles and her sense of humor. She was predeceased by her husband Cornelius in 1971, 3 daughters: Katherina in 1996, Susanna in 1947 and Sara in infancy; 2 sons-in-law, one grandchild and two great grandchildren. She is survived by nine children: Helen Kornelson of Steinbach, Cornelius (Diane) of Steinbach, Mary (Bill) Wright of St. Thomas, ON, Ann Toombs of Langton, ON, Henry of Blumenort, John (Mary) of Grunthal, Frank of BC, Peter and Dave both of Pansy; 33 grandchildren; 101 great grandchildren and 48 great great grandchildren. The funeral service was held Tuesday, March 11 at 2 p.m. at the Grunthal CMC Church with interment at the Grunthal Cemetery. It was so hard to see her go For all of us who loved her so Until we stopped to realize She was with God, above the skies Where pain and suffering in no more On that Eternal Heavenly Shore So now this comfort we will share Until that day we meet her there. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chortitzer Mennonite Church in Grunthal with viewing at the church prior to the service. Interment to follow at Grunthal Cemetery.
