Obituary of Victor Neudorf

On February 21, 2011, our Husband, Father and Opa, Victor David Neudorf, went to be with his Lord. Vic was the first child born to David & Anganetha Neudorf on March 17, 1929 in Osterwick, Ukraine. Years of turmoil during the war caused his father to be separated from the family and his mother to pass away in Berlin during their exodus. Vic made his way to Canada with his beloved little sister Nettie in 1948. They lived with relatives in Saskatchewan and Alberta. In 1950 he was baptized in the Mennonite faith. In 1952 he came to Winnipeg where he met Herta Loewen and they were married in 1955. In 1956 he received word that his father had survived the war and 10 years later was re-united with him and his step-mother when they immigrated to Canada. They were blessed to spend more than 20 years together in Winnipeg. Having little education, his entrepreneurial spirit took hold and he began his many careers to provide a living for his wife and three children. He tried everything from factory work, bus and ambulance driver, construction, building trailers and boats, pizza franchises, real estate and insurance. There wasn’t much he didn’t know how to do, build or fix. He built many homes for his family, including our family cottage at Twin Beach. He was instrumental in the building of Douglas Mennonite Church, and the flying clubs at St Andrews and Lyncrest airports. He loved working with his hands and was lucky enough to be able to build and fix things until he became ill in November 2010. Vic had a love of flying, getting his private pilot’s license in 1961. He continued to fly until his health prevented him from obtaining his license a few years ago. His family and many friends will remember him for his incredible sense of humor. He loved to make people laugh and always had a joke to tell. He leaves behind a grateful family - his wife Herta, children and grandchildren Wendy Caughlin (Collin, Cory, Kira), Gary and Elke Neudorf (Trevor) and Gord and Sandi Neudorf (Casey, Nikki). Thank you Dad for all you did for us. It was our privilege to work alongside you and learn from you. He was predeceased by his parents, step-mother Margareta, sister Margaret in infancy, his sister Nettie Thiessen, in-laws Cornelius and Luise Loewen, niece Chrystle Loewen, nephew Danny Loewen, and son-in-law Ken Caughlin. The family would like to thank his many friends and relatives for the outpouring of care, visits, well wishes and prayers. Funeral service will be on Monday, February 28 at 11:00 a.m. at the Douglas Mennonite Church, 1517 Rothesay St., Winnipeg. Viewing will be prior to the service. Interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Drive; Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9.
