Obituary of Arthur Bernhard Wiebe

Arthur Wiebe passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 13, 2008, at home with his family by his side. Art was born November 13, 1932 to Ben and Katherina Wiebe. He met Anne Blatz during his high school years in Kane. They were married May 31, 1953. After a year of farming, he pursued a career in teaching. He taught at Neuhorst for 3 years, Blumenort for 6 years, Aklavik and Tuktayaktuk for 4 years, back to Blumenort and then to Steinbach Jr. High to finish his career (34 years). He enjoyed every year! Art loved playing and watching sports – all kinds. He loved to travel, going from coast to coast in all directions to visit family and friends. Most of all, he enjoyed his church life which included choir, Sunday School, clubs, and food services. He asked the Lord to be his Savior at 19, was baptized shortly after, and became a member of the M.B. Church. He very much enjoyed leading Bible studies and singing in the Eastman Choir. His quiet, steadfast faith in his Lord was an encouragement to many. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anne, one son and three daughters. From Kemptville, ON, Gwen (Phil Castle, children Garry (Shannon), Melissa (Graham), Rob (Jody)). From Vanderhoof, B.C., Cathy (Ken Dycke, children Rylee, Jarett, Kelly), From Regina, SK, Daryl (Terrie and daughter Kenzie). From Steinbach, MB, Yvonne (Merle Hiebert, children Andre and Madeleine) and 4 great-grandchildren. Three brothers and one sister: John (Marilyn), Peter (Lorraine), Esther (Frank Kasunich), David (Vivian), and many other family members. Many, many thanks for the wonderful compassionate care given by the Bethesda Hospital Staff, Home Care, and Palliative Care. The funeral will be held Wednesday, March 19, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mennonite Brethren Church, 340 2nd St, Steinbach, with interment at Heritage Cemetery.
