Obituary of Wilhelmina Jonkers Eising

1 Corinthians 13:13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. Wilhelmina Jonkers-Eising passed away on Sunday March 30th at Bethesda Hospital. Wilhelmina was born on February 2nd 1931 to Gerrit and Klazina Jonkers of Laaghalerveen in the province of Drenthe in the Netherlands. There she attended school and later she moved to Beilen to work. Through her involvement in church youth clubs, drama clubs and sports clubs she was well-known in her community. She married Geert Eising on June 10th of 1955. Because of his work they moved away from their family to live and work in the south of the Netherlands. Wilhelmina was a vibrant person with a zest for life. She was not taken aback by life’s difficulties, rather she would take on the challenges and very often she was successful at achieving seemingly impossible goals. Together with Geert she raised four children and in 1985 the entire family moved to La Broquerie, Manitoba. All of her children moved out to attend school or work. Although Wilhelmina was happy with her children’s career choices, she was saddened by the fact that they didn’t live nearby. She was thrilled when they married and had children of their own. Wilhelmina was always concerned with their wellbeing and she worked hard to make sure everyone was taken care of. She enjoyed the visits with her children and their families, she was especially fond of her grandchildren. Wilhelmina was very creative, she was a painter, a seamstress, a gardener, and designed and built the house she last lived in. In April of 2002 she underwent surgery because she was diagnosed with bowel cancer. She underwent cancer treatment until the fall of 2007. Although the treatments and the cancer were hard on her, she remained determined to go on. She spent her last months at Steinbach Bethesda Hospital. There she was comforted by friends and family, which was greatly appreciated by her and by the family. On Sunday March 30th, at the age of 77, in the presence of family, she passed away. Wilhelmina was everything a person would like to be. She was a strong, caring, intelligent and optimistic human being. Her mind remained strong until the very end. Her death, although expected, came as a shock to us all. Wilhelmina was predeceased by her parents, by her sister Annechien and by her brother Lute. Wilhelmina leaves to mourn: her husband Geert Eising of La Broquerie, her son Erik Eising and Judith Hoogstraten of Winnipeg, her son Roelof Eising of Blumenort, her son Gerwin Eising and wife Karen Eising of Stony Mountain, her daughter Anneke Salomons-Eising and husband Christiaan Salomons of Almere, the Netherlands; her grandchildren: Kristina, Katherine, Addison, Emmery, Alexander and Richard. Her sister Klazina Jonkers-Ypma with her husband Martinus Ypma of the Netherlands. As well as two other sisters, a brother, two brothers in law and their wives, cousins ,nieces and nephews. On behalf of the family, we would like to thank Dr. Garba, Dr. Reimer and Dr. Krahn from the Cancer Care Unit at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach. We would especially like to thank Mrs. Maggie Smith and all of the other devoting staff at Bethesda Hospital. We also would like to thank our friends, your visits were greatly appreciated. Viewing will be held at Gospel Chapel in La Broquerie on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Gospel Chapel in La Broquerie with interment at Heritage Cemetery in Steinbach, Manitoba. If friends so desire donations in Wilhelmina’s memory may be made to the Bethesda Hospital – Cancer Care, Box Box 939, Steinbach, MB R5G 1A3.
