Obituary of David Wieler

DAVID WIELER It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Wieler, husband, father and grandfather. He died on Thursday, February 24, 2011, shortly after being rushed to Health Sciences Centre in critical condition following a collision near his home in steinbach. He was 73. David was born in Cuauhtémoc, Mexico on July 16, 1937. He married Helena Knelsen in 1962. God blessed them with nine children, and in October of 1986 he moved his family to Steinbach, MB. He was employed at Barkman Concrete for many years and retired at the age of 60. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Helena, seven sons, David (Anna), Peter (Elizabeth), Jake (Lisa), Henry (Maria), John (Susie), Frank (Dallas), Will (Susie) and two daughters Helen (Dan Sawatzky) and Trudy (Zenon Wolkowicz). He also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, in whom he took great delight. Making his grandchildren happy made him happy, and he loved joining them in the activities they enjoy. David truly enjoyed music, both vocal and instrumental, often initiating hymn-singing at family functions. He loved the outdoors, and was often seen taking walks and bike rides around town. He was generous with his time, and regularly spent hours over coffee with friends and family, continuously challenging them spiritually. His wisdom, compassion, and resourcefulness will be missed by many. While we are very sad that he is gone, we are grateful to God that David was so healthy and full of life right until the end. His faith in God was a life-long pursuit, and he was deeply concerned for the spiritual well-being of each of his family members. Nearly two years ago, he recommitted his life to Jesus and was baptized. The family would like to thank the emergency personnel and the staff of Bethesda Hospital and Health Sciences Centre who cared for David during the last hours of his life. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Tuesday, March 1 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place Wednesday, March 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Mennonite Church 422 Main St, Steinbach with interment at Heritage Cemetery. If friends so desire donations may be made to the family to be donated to a charity of their choice.
