I recently sat with Ben one morning, and he shared his testimony, of how he came to give his life to Jesus. What a joy and privilege I was given that day, that he shared this with me; but that was Ben's heart, that others would know his Savior as well. And it gives us comfort to know he is safe, healed, and forever rejoicing in heaven.

He was one of the kindest people i've ever met, full of light and good humour.

Ben was one of my older brothers and when he would come home on weekends from wherever he worked, he would bring with him teasing, laughter and sometimes reminders of cleanliness. He could be funny and also blunt and honest. I especially loved the records he'd play, especially remembering Johnny Horton and Jim Reeves. Both Ben and Rosa worked hard and were very knowledgeable on topics of health, growing plants, building, or cooking in their kitchen, among many other talents they possessed. Most of all they knew their Bible and it was evident everywhere, in their home and work; their love of the Lord Jesus. This is what my husband Daniel and I most treasure in our memory of Ben. Memories of Ben and I
Ben was almost a year older than I. We played together a lot. I will pick out just a few of the many memories that come flooding into my mind...
There are memories of the two of us as preschoolers playing on tall snow drifts. A big drift led us onto the roof of Mom's laundry shed. We were certain that we could see Winnipeg from there. So, from Blumenort our young minds could see all the way to the big city.
Further on in years, Ben arranged with the FORD dealer in Gimli to service my car, where I lacked confidence.
On the goofy side of Ben: He secretly took a picture of the dishes piled high in the kitchen and had it developed. Then showed us sisters what we had neglected to do.
On the more serious side: Ben shared with me the details of his conversion to Jesus. During his battle with cancer, he amazed me with his simple but profound spiritual conversation.
We are thankful that he is relieved of his suffering. We'll miss you Ben.

Dear Rosa and family:
We are so sorry to hear of Ben's passing. Ben has now found peace and comfort with the Lord after a fulfilling life of 78 years. He will forever be loved and remembered by all whose lives he has touched. The good Lord saw it time to relieve Ben's suffering so He closed his weary eyelids and whispered “Peace be thine.” May you rest in peace Ben and enjoy the beauty of heaven and rejoice...

I cherish the memories my beloved brother left with me. Ben and Rosa’s yard is beautiful. Rosa loves flowers. Ben—also a nature lover—loved Rosa and worked hard to support her. During our phone conversations, Ben would often excitedly tell me about the different birds that were almost tame enough to come and sit in his hands and about other wild animals wanting to make their yard their home. BUT he also told me about mishaps when clearing their driveway of snow in winter; he was legally blind. Ben always spoke highly of neighbours who surprised him by offering their help; they even secretly cleared that long driveway for him. He also fondly recalled cousins and friends who dropped in. Ben loved God and he loved people! My most recent memories of Ben are from when my foster daughter and I visited Canada last October. Ben had already been battling cancer for quite some time, but he was so pleasant and made sure that we felt welcome and comfortable. During my last phone call with Ben, which was only hours before he passed away, he was obviously in a lot of pain as he struggled to make himself understood. Rosa was at his side. His last words of love and victory were spoken to me as we prayed together while crying. We felt the presence of the Lord, like standing on holy ground. Although we will all miss him dearly, we do not wish him back. He is now in a final state of bliss and glory. --- Mary Brandt

Rosa and family, I always enjoyed chatting with Ben when I went for monthly treatments with Rosa. He was always so happy, upbeat, quick wit and a great tease. Let all your wonderful memories flood you with warmth and love during this sad time of loss.

I have lots of good memories of Ben,
from his teenage years as a tease when he came to live with my parents,
as a very proud newly wed,
driving his new standard truck when I had no clue how to shift gears,
staying with us in Calgary during eye surgery.
Rosa, George & me send huge hugs and our deepest condolence to you.

There are not many memories I have of Ben growing up as he had left home before I remember. When he visited home.. He loved his truck.. And was fussy about his clothes. The one memory that I recall was the day he met Rosa. Another memory from growing I have was when he took only me to Blumenort to visit cousins. He enlightened me that visiting Grandma was first priority. He was a pretty good driver. We sped safely!
My husband Al & I send our condolences to Rosa and your family. Thankful for Ben, sad for you
