Obituary of Anne Blatz

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 3, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.

Anne Blatz (nee Schellenberg) passed away peacefully at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Steinbach, MB on November 30, 2020, aged 85.

Anne is dearly missed by her loving husband Peter, sons Gord (Mary), Cliff, Keith (Chantal) and Dave (Amy), and her six grandchildren, Eli, Emma, Peter, Campbell, Bodhi and Ellison. Anne is also remembered by her sisters, Mary, Tina Rempel (passed Dec. 28, 2021), Helen, Eva, and Sue, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents Jacob and Maria, brothers, John, Jake, Peter and Martin, and sisters, Edith and Nettie.

Anne was born on March 13, 1935 in Mexico to Jacob and Maria Schellenberg. Her family moved to Canada shortly after where they settled in the Grunthal area. On July 28, 1957, Anne married her sweetheart, Peter Blatz. In their 63 years together they accomplished many things, the most noteworthy of which was raising four sons.

Anne and Peter lived many cherished years on their family farm just outside of Steinbach before moving into town. Anne was a wonderful homemaker and hostess and was always dressed to the “nines”. Anne always made sure there was plenty for everyone and never hesitated to make more if needed. As much as she loved to cook and bake, she loved to see people enjoying the food she made. Everyone was welcomed into Anne's (impeccably clean) home for perogies and her famous schmaunt kuchen.

Anne will be remembered as a kind, caring and giving woman, friend, sister, mother and grandmother.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Rest Haven Nursing Home who looked after our mother and grandmother in her final few months.
