I am so thankful I could watch these beautiful tributes and memories. I remember when I last visited uncle Tim about a year and a half ago I was so encouraged by his faith and he was clearly overflowing with the spirit! And I have to agree with the many tributes mentioning Uncle Tim's loving selfless care for people. My heart goes out to you Auntie Lorraine and my cousins Jonathan, Megan, Christine and Danielle and families. Lots of love to you all.
Love, Annette

Lorraine,and family,
What a beautiful tribute to Tim, he truly lived his life well.
Tim would send Gary updates, always many praise items
first and then prayer requests. I was thankful to continue
receiving these after Gary passed. Some of the statements
his sister Mary spoke about, I heard him say as well, he truly
gave all over to the Lord.
I have never met anyone who would put as much planning
and effort into a prank. I'll always remember when Tim called
Gary to come see and take pictures of a bear at his place. We
got there, Gary climbed onto the roof with his camera to get a
better look only to find a gorilla lounging on an outside sofa
under a large sun umbrella!
Tim's stories were great and just as good was his laughter as
he recounted them.
I imagine Tim and Gary are spending time together once again.
May the Lord comfort you in these days, weeks and months ahead.
Revelation 21:4
You all continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thinking about Lorraine and the entire family and group of friends who knew and loved Tim.
I have heard so many great stories from Danielle and Logan who speak so fondly of his love of board games and all the hours he used to to tinker with Danielle's old Honda. She has some great thrifted finds as well, lovingly found and hunted by her dad. His legacy and joy will live on with all of his children and his family.
Respectfully, Kim O'Brien and Brian Beckman

Although I knew Tim for most of my life, I knew him mostly as a "cool uncle" figure that would often swing by our house with neat gadgets that he acquired from his most recent garage sale hunt - things that he figured that someone in our household wanted but cost more than ten times the amount in store. As I grew into my adolescent/young adult years, his "coolness" factor grew as he was always willing to offer a ride to/from the city. He would begin the drive with a stop for a slurpee and some other treat (wedges, wings, roti, etc.) and spend most of ride sharing his humour...but inevitably, at some point throughout the car ride, he would share a life lesson or insightful thought form me to chew on. Fast forward a few years into the home ownership stage and Tim's coolness was articulated by his willingness to share his vast knowledge of everything electrical (and most everything of all the other components of a house). Between my Dad, and Tim they could fix any problem - I stood by and watched in admiration as these two good friends (different in many ways, but connected as brothers through faith), solved many issues (in many respects).
After moving from Manitoba in 2008, I didn't get the pleasure of seeing Tim that often. I would get updates through my parents, and invieatably hear of some sort of good that he was doing to serve others. But after hearing of his diagnosis, I reached out - what followed was remarkable. I learned what was behind this very generous, kind man with a huge heart - his love for Christ! Tim made a mission of the Great Commission - He actively chose to shine the light of Christ through good deed and positivity. He lifted others (me) up, as he climbed closer to Jesus.....He stated early in his difficult journey that one of his main goals was to be an ambassador for Christ and from my vantage point I would say, mission accomplished!
May you rest in peace and rise to Glory brother Tim.

My family has gone to church with the Ruten family for as long as I can remember. When I was a little girl, probably between ages 6 and 8, Mr. Ruten was my Sunday School teacher one year. He challenged us to memorize one verse each week. He promised that at the end of the year, he would take to McDonald's all the kids who had accomplished the challenge. By the end of the year, only me and his son, John, had gone the whole Sunday School year without missing a week of memorization. Because there were only two of us, he took us, not only to McDonald's, but to Grand Prix Amusements. I remember him comforting me after I started crying fearfully in the carnival "haunted house". And I remember the excitement of McDonald's afterwards. The fact that I - a wary little girl who never liked to leave her mother - went along with him and John is a testament to the gentleness of character Mr. Ruten had.
Later in junior high, memorizing Scripture again became a very regular part of my life. And now I am trying intentionally to implement it again, not only for me, but for my own young children. Mr. Ruten's Sunday School class was the first memory I have of being challenged in regular Scripture memory, and I am grateful for his service to the Lord and impact on my life.

Tim and I served together for many years at Southland Church, but often in different areas. While serving as an usher he would often help me with the counting of the offering from various services. Tim was always willing to help out and replace others if they needed a spare. My most memorable moments are of him sharing life as we worked together in the office and what Christ was doing in his life. In one way he never left Africa for if he saw a person he thought was from Africa, he was like a heat seeking missile, and left whoever else he was talking to in order to find out where they were from. He had a deep love for Jesus and shared that love with those around him.
We will greatly miss your smile, your jokes and input in our lives.

Sorry to hear of Tim’s passing. He was always good for a few chuckles as we prepared to do ushering duties at Southland Church. Always a sincere person and appreciated his friendly manner and many jokes. Sincerest wishes of peace to the family.

So sorry to learn of Tim's passing. While we lost touch over the decades, Tim and I shared many fun moments while attending Red River College. Doug and Tim were very generous in feeding me during study nights at their apartment during those lean times . We enjoyed a wilderness canoe trip in Lake of the Woods as well. Tim was so incredibly generous and kind and I benefited from knowing him. I even have one of his famous antique picks, an old 1920's grammaphone that still works. To the family, so sorry for your loss. May warm memories of Tim hold you through these difficult times. - Steve Neufeld, Niverville.
