Obituary of John Kehler

It is deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Kehler, father, grand and great grandfather, at the Grace Hospital, Winnipeg, MB. With family at his side, he left his tired body and went to his eternal home at the age of 89 years.

John was predeceased by his loving wife Agatha of 58 years, on August 13, 2018, and their son Herman on November 13, 2005.

His memory will be cherished by his children: Debbie and Ewald Kasdorf, Phyllis Husk, Martha Kehler and partner Alan Roy, Kim and Marlen, daughter-in-law Lori Kehler, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Dad was a man of quiet faith and few words. Mom and dad moved to Silver Courts in Niverville in the spring of 2018, and dad being shy and reserved, it’s possible that many of his neighbours didn’t know who he was or even if lived in the building for many months. As family we knew dads’ other side of relentless teasing and genuine interest in each of each of us, from oldest to youngest. He always asked for an update on our families, he cherished each visit and phone call, whether long or short. Saying goodbye after a visit or phone call was never just goodbye. It was always “bye, I love you. Take care and don’t work so hard “, and it was often repeated more than once.

Dad, we won’t say goodbye this time… we’ll “see you SOON!” and dad, we’ll take care of each other.

We as a family cannot say thank you enough to the amazing, compassionate staff at the Grace Hospital ICU for the excellent care they gave dad and us, it was second to none! God bless you all and Thank You!

A come & go viewing will be held Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.   Please line up in your vehicle on the west side of the building and a director will usher you in when it is safe to do so.

A private family funeral service will be held Friday, October 29, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel.
